Robert Sullivan Jr. joined the Sweet Briar College cross country/track & field program as an assistant coach in the fall of 2024.
Prior to joining the Vixens, Sullivan served on the coach staff at Hollins University since 2019 and was named the first track & field head coach in the University's history. While at Hollins, Sullivan elevated the cross country program from last place in the conference to a best finish of 7th place in 2022. During his tenure the team achieved 40 of the top twenty 4k, 5k and 6k results in program history. He also guided the 2021 cross country program to its first NCAA DIII South Region Cross Country Championships. In 2023, the program enjoyed its best NCAA DIII South Region finish in the top 20.
Sullivan led the Hollins team to score in each indoor and outdoor track conference meet with seven top ten individual finishers. The team enjoyed its highest conference finish with 8th place at the 2024 indoor conference championships.
He also coached two athletes to earn three NCAA DIII All South Region awards, and one USATFCCA All-Academic athlete who finished 32nd in DIII nationally and coached one athlete that earned 2nd team All-ODAC at the 2024 indoor track & field conference championships.
Additionally, Sullivan supported student athletes in their academic endeavors which enabled the cross country/track & field program to earn nine consecutive All-Academic team honors.
Prior to his time at Hollins, Sullivan coached cross country and track & field at Lord Botetourt High School and also maintains a USA Track & Field Level One certification along with numerous other certifications in personal fitness.
