Jason Capps enters his fourth season as the head soccer coach at Sweet Briar college during the 2021-22 academic year, while also serving as the advisor of Sweet Briar's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

During his most recent season as the Vixens' head coach, in 2019, Capps saw opponents' goals per game drop by two goals from the previous season.

The 2019 season saw the Vixens earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Platinum Award. The Vixens were one of only five teams to earn platinum status from the United Soccer Coaches and in the summer of 2020, two Sweet Briar soccer student-athletes earned VaSID Academic All-State laurels.

Capps' debut season at Sweet Briar saw the Vixens earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Gold Award, while three student-athletes earned VaSID Academic All-State honors and six received ODAC All-Academic nods.

On the pitch, Capps earned his first collegiate victory as the Vixens knocked off Trinity Washington 1-0 in double overtime on the road during September of 2018.

Before he was named the head coach at Sweet Briar in the summer of 2018, Capps was an assistant coach for nine seasons at Bridgewater College. During his nine seasons as an assistant at Bridgewater, the Eagles compiled an overall record of 101-61-9 and in 2012 reached the ODAC Championship match for the first time in program history.

The 2014 season at Bridgewater saw the Eagles set a program record with 16 wins, while also earning a regional ranking from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the first NCAA Division III regional ranking in program history.

Capps also served as the head girls soccer coach at the Eastern Mennonite School from 2009-14.

With Eastern Mennonite School, Capps led the Flames to three straight state championship games and the program’s first Virginia Independent Schools state title in 2013. Capps was the Blue Ridge Conference Coach of the Year in 2013.

While a student at Middle Tennessee State University, Capps served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Division I Blue Raiders' women's soccer program from 2003-04.

Capps received his Master of Science in kinesiology — sport and recreation leadership from James Madison University in 2017 and his Bachelor of Arts in English from Middle Tennessee State in 2008.

Capps is a member of the United Soccer Coaches and holds a United States Soccer Federation National D Soccer Coaching License.
