Shenandoah Hosts Sweet Briar in First ODAC Meeting

Box Score

WINCHESTER, Va. --- In their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference meeting, Shenandoah University hosted Sweet Briar College on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium. Both teams entered the game on the hunt for that elusive first 2012 ODAC win.

The Vixen side hoped to capitalize on the strong second half of play in the week's earlier ODAC match with Randolph College on Tuesday, September 18.  During that match SBC posted a second half shutout for the second time in as many games.  On the previous Saturday, SBC held Lynchburg College to a scoreless second period.  The host Hornets had other designs.

Shenandoah set its sights on recovering from a double overtime tie (2-2) with fellow league member Bridgewater College on Wednesday, September 19.  Lead by midfielders Danielle Burris (Cooksville, Md./Glenelg) and Missy Volonino (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili), SU stormed out of the gate.

Burris had a hand in each of the Hornet's first three scores.  The rookie midfielder scored a goal and tossed in two assists while teammate Volonino finished with two tallies and one assist to lead SU past Sweet Briar 9-0.

SU enjoyed an advantage on shots on goal (20) and corners (5). Sweet Briar goalkeeper Katherine Tillson '16 (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) made 11 stops on the afternoon.

Vixen Soccer returns to the 'Briar to host Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, September 26.  The ODAC contest is slated for 4:30 p.m. start on Babcock Field.
