Box Score GREESBORO, N.C. --- Nina Peck (Falls Curch, Va./Homeschooled) and Grayson Murphy (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) each netted a goal for Sweet Briar againt Guilford College, but Kelli Uresti (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) came to the Quakers' rescue in Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
Sweet Briar took an early lead off a corner kick. Chelsea Daniels (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez) put the ball in play and co-captain Nina Peck finished a Des'Rae Davis (Houston, Tex. / Mirabeau B. Lamar) rebound for the 1-0 Vixen lead.
GC quickly answered with the first of Uresti's three goals. Two minutes later Uresti finished a Caroline Bishop (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) assist to push the Quaker lead to 2-1. Bishop and Uresti teamed up again, this time with Uresti feeding Bishop to give the home team a 3-1 advantage at the 15:19 mark.
SBC answered as first-year striker Grayson Murphy scored an unassisted goal to pull the Vixen side to within one (3-2). In the waning minutes of the first period, Uresti tallied her third score and the half ended with the Quakers leading 4-2.
In the second half, SBC held the advantage in shots (9-7) and corners (5-0), but the Vixen squad was not able to convert a score. Midway through the half Daniels took a free kick that just did miss the target. SBC created several dangerous chances down the stretch, including shots by Alicia Wooten (Columbia, Md./Okland Mills) and Emily Welch (Pamplin, Va./Appomattox), but the Quakers were able to fend off the attacks.
Vixen keeper Katie Tillson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) made 13 saves on the afternoon while Quaker net minder Abby Gove (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth Academy) scooped up seven shots in the game.
With the 4-2 loss, Sweet Briar's record slips to 2-5-1 and 0-5 in the conference. Guilford's record now stands at 1-12 and 1-5 in the ODAC.
