Virginia Wesleyan's depth made a difference as the Marlins defeated the Sweet Briar soccer team 6-0 on Wednesday at Babcock Field.

The visitors swapped their entire starting lineup in the first half except for the goalkeeper, and the reserves scored four times against a tired Vixen team in a span of just over 16 minutes.

Erin Chamberlain beat a defender and crossed to the middle, with Katie Roberts beating the Vixen goalkeeper to the ball and sliding into the open net for a 2-0 lead.

Roberts scored the third as well, running through the middle onto a long pass from Krissy Richards.

Roberts then assisted Maddie Sanders for the fourth goal, giving her five points in a span of under seven minutes.

Just seven seconds before halftime, an unlucky deflection ended up right at the feet of Sarah Nickle, who slotted into the left corner for a 5-0 halftime scoreline.

Kristen Cherry had opened the scoring in the ninth minute, splitting two defenders and beating Katie Tillson high at the near post.

Cherry was a threat often in the early going, forcing Tillson into a good breakaway save in the opening five minutes. She then broke through the defense again in the 14th minute but put her shot wide.

Alexia Vassiliadis capped the scoring in the 58th minute, floating a shot over Tillson and into the far corner from long range.

Marissa Coombs won a header on a corner that went right at Tillson. Stephanie Scott had a dangerous free kick for Sweet Briar, but Wesleyan goalie Tiffany Lennon beat a charging Kayla Kishbaugh to the ball.

Tillson finished with nine saves for Sweet Briar. The Vixens fall to 5-3, 2-3, and play Eastern Mennonite at home on Saturday in a crucial ODAC matchup.
