SBC Swimming Hosts First Home Duel Of 2017

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Sweet Briar College swim team hosted Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon for the team's first home duel of the season. The Hampden-Sydney College team was also on hand to swim against the Gallaudet men. The Bison won the duel, 115-74.

The Vixens got off to a hot start by winning the first event, the 200-meter medley relay. The team of Theresa Carriveau, Claire Zak, Dharma Kear, and Sydnie Stinnette edged out the Gallaudet team by less than two seconds with a final time of 2:33.98.

Carriveau had a quick turn around and won event two, the 800 free, with a time of 11:43.47. SBC's top distance swimmer, Carriveau also won the 400 free in a time of 5:45.81.

Fellow first-year Stinnette claimed second place in the 50 free, touching the wall at 34.90. Right behind her in third place was first-year Nora Floria. Stinnette and Floria each claimed second place in later races, the 100 free and 100 back respectively. 

First-year Kear won the 200 IM, besting her nearest competition by over 20 seconds and recording a time of 3:10.33. In the 100 fly, Zak finished second in a time of 1:37.29.

Senior Mikia Hundley wrapped up the Vixens day with a second-place showing in the 100-meter breaststroke. She finished in 1:46.69.

The Vixens will return to the pool next Saturday when they host UNC Pembroke and Pfeiffer University for a double duel beginning at 1 p.m.
