SWEET BRIAR, Va.- Two first half goals were enough for the Sweet Briar College soccer team to edge out Regent University and earn its first win of the season, 2-1.

First-year Catherine Ford and senior Alexa Dahlin both registered the first collegiate goals of their careers with their tallies. Ford opened the scoring in the 17th minute when she finished off a cross from senior Jona Cumani, who is credited with her first career assist. In the 44th minute, Dahlin took possession of the ball 25 yards from goal, dribbled to the edge of the 18-yard box and buried a beautifully curled shot into the back of the net. 

Ford led the SBC attack all evening with five of the team's 13 total shots. Dahlin and Caroline Thomas each finished with three shots in the match.

Sam Holton made her first career start in goal for the Vixens and wasn't really challenged much throughout the match, facing seven total shots with only two finding their way on frame. The first-year from Arbutus, Md. made one save in the match.

Along with holding a strong edge in shots, Sweet Briar dominated the corner kick count, 8-3, with six coming in the second half.

After opening the season with three games in the span of seven days, the Vixens will now turn their focus to training. They'll head out on the road for the first time this fall with a match at Cedar Crest College on Saturday, Sept. 16. Opening kick is slated for 1:30 p.m.
