Caroline Trimmer tallied a Senior Day goal on Saturday, while junior
Alexis Jones recorded a hat trick in the Vixens' 5-2 home victory over the visiting Wells Express at Thayer Field.
After the Express opened the scoring in the 23rd minute on a Hannah Koerner goal, Sweet Briar needed only four minutes to find the equalizer when sophomore
Maggie Groetsch (Asheville, N.C.) assisted on Jones' (Suffolk, Va.) first goal of the afternoon.
Jones scored again on a solo effort in the 29th minute to give Sweet Briar a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.
The third period of action Sweet Briar score off a penalty corner in the 46th minute, when first-year Ingrid Kalwitz-Blanco (Antofagasta, Chile) sent the corner to first-year
Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) and Goodly fed Groetsch for the would-be winner.
The 48th minute saw Whitney Coleman score for Wells, pulling the score line to a 3-2 Sweet Briar advantage.
The Vixens scored a pair of insurance goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes of play. The 52nd minute saw Trimmer score off an assist from first-year
Ankita Bhurtel (Annandale, Va.), while the 57th was another solo effort by Jones.
In goal, Sweet Briar junior
Rosemary Austin (Commerce Township, Mich.) tallied three saves.
Jones' hat trick is the first known hat trick by a Sweet Briar field hockey player in at-least the last decade. Jones' third goal of the day was the sixth of her junior season.
Groetsch and Trimmer both tallied their first goal of the season, while Groetsch also notched her first assist of the year.
Goodly, Kalwitz-Blanco and Bhurtel all recorded the first assist of their collegiate careers.

Lashlee McCray (Richmond, Va.) and
Rachel Gomez (Dallas, Texas) prior to Saturday's match.
The Vixens will hit the road for the final two games of the season, first lining up against Southern Virginia in Buena Vista, Va. on October 16 at 4 p.m.
