SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Sweet Briar swim team opened its home slate on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of duals to Hollins and Roanoke at the Prothro Natatorium.
Roanoke topped Sweet Briar 151-35 and Hollins 150-35, while Hollins left with a 103-65 victory over the Vixens.
The double-dual got underway with the 400-meter medley relay, which saw the Vixens finish fourth with a time of 5:36.32. Sweet Briar's relay featured first-year Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.), sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.), first-year Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) and first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.).
individual events got started with the 800-meter freestyle, which saw Murphy finish third with a time of 11:37. Martin was fifth at 13:07, while junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) was sixth at 13:08.
The 200-meter freestyle finished wit Sanford in fourth with a time of 2:49.90 and junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) in fifth with a 2:53.61 finish. Murphy touched the wall with an exhibition time of 2:42.10.
First-year Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.) was fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, touching at 34.02, while sophomore Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) was ninth at 37.72. In exhibition swims, Williams finished with a time of 32.08 and Sanford finished with a time of 33.55.
Murphy finished the 400-meter individual medley in third at 6:12.36, while Kear was fifth at 7:18.36.
The 200-meter butterfly saw Murphy exhibition with a time of 3:04.88.
Seven Vixens swam in the 100-meter freestyle, with three posting exhibition marks. Williams finished fifth at 1:13.57, while Rucker touched sixth at 1:17.89. Jones was seventh with a time of 1:24.44 to round out the Sweet Briar scorers in the event.
In exhibition swims, Sanford finished at 1:14.27, Murphy at 1:16.44, Martin at 1:26.02 and Florio at 1:29.80.
The Vixens swam three swimmers as exhibitions in the 200-backstroke led by Murphy's 2:55.65. Florio finished at 3:32.27, while Martin touched the wall at 3:33.38.
Kear finished fifth for the Vixens in the 400-meter freestyle at 5:55.24 while Murphy finished an exhibition swim at 5:48.47 and Florio finished her exhibition swim at 6:37.23.
The final individual event, the 200-meter breaststroke, saw Martin fifth, Sanford sixth and Florio seventh. Martin touched at 3:38.24, Sanford at 3:54.70 and Florio with a time of 4:21.97. Rucker touched at 3:24.40 and Murphy at 3:29.05 in exhibitions.
Sweet Briar was fourth in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 5:33.03. The Vixens' final relay was comprised of Williams, Jones, Rucker and Florio.
Sweet Briar travels on November 2 to meet Pfeiffer and UNC Pembroke at Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, N.C.
