LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sweet Briar swimmers recorded seven personal-best marks on Saturday at the Liberty Natatorium as the Vixens picked up a dual win over Southern Virginia while dropping duals to Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan.
Sweet Briar topped Southern Virginia 121-114 but was defeated 140-100 by Virginia Wesleyan and 203-51 by Lynchburg.
The Lynchburg Invitational got underway with the 400-yard medley relay, that saw Sweet Briar finish fifth with a time of 5:32.86, the Vixens' fastest time of the season. Sweet Briar's opening relay was comprised of junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.), sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.), first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) and first-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.).
The 1000-yard freestyle saw junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) finish fourth with a time of 13:41.74 and Florio touch the wall sixth at 15:25.47.
The third event of the day for the Vixens was the 200-yard freestyle, where first-year Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.) was seventh with a personal-best time of 2:29.73 and Jones touched eighth at 2:43.87.
Florio was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a personal-best time of 1:28.25. Sophomore Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) was eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 1:49.61.
First-year Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) won her heat and finished second overall with a time of 1:20.41, her fastest collegiate time in the event. Martin was sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:29.63.
The 200-yard butterfly finished with Kear and Williams touching third and fourth, respectively. Kear finished at 3:00.59, while Williams finished with a personal-best time of 3:05.46.
The 50-yard freestyle saw Murphy finish sixth at 28.58 and Shaw 10th with a time of 36.13.
Jones was seventh with a time of 1:14.10 in the 100-yard freestyle, while Williams led the Vixens with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Williams touched fourth with a time of 2:50.30, followed by Martin in fifth at 3:04.11 and Shaw in seventh at 4:00.94. All three 200-yard backstroke times for Sweet Briar were personal-best marks.
Martin and Sanford finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke with Florio finishing eighth. All three swimmers recorded personal bests in the 200-yard breaststroke with Martin at 3:18.30, Sanford at 3:26.68 and Florio touching with a time of 3:42.26.
Jones was seventh with a time of 7:12.46 in the 500-yard freestyle, while in the 100-yard butterfly finished with Sanford in fifth with a time of 1:24.14.
The 200-yard individual medley saw Murphy in fifth and Kear in sixth. Murphy finished with a time of 2:34.84 and Kear touched the wall at 2:49.73.
The day finished for Sweet Briar with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Vixens' 'A' relay of Murphy, Sanford, Kear and Williams touched with a time of 4:23.36. In an exhibition swim, Florio, Martin, Jones and Shaw finished the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 5:13.21.
Sweet Briar's final road meet of the calendar year takes place on Friday, November 15, as the Vixens head to the Greensboro Aquatic Center for duals against Guilford and Salem at 5 p.m.
