FERRUM, Va. — The first athletic event of 2020, saw Sweet Briar earn a 110-62 victory over host Ferrum at the Swartz Gym Pool as first-year Peyton Murphy picked up three victories on the evening.
Hollins topped Sweet Briar as part of the double dual by a score of 95-86.
Friday evening's event started with a second-place finish by the Vixens in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) first-year Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.), first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) finished with a time of 2:19.53.
Junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed second with a time of 23:37.06 in the first individual event of the night, the 1650-yard freestyle.
Sweet Briar finished three-four-five in the 200-yard freestyle, led by Sanford's 2:27.45 finish. Jones placed fourth at 2:40.17, while sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.) was fifth with a time of 2:41.07.
Jones was third with a time of 32.62 in the 50-yard freestyle, followed by a fourth-place finish by Florio at 33.39. Sophomore Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fifth with a 37.01 finish.
Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) won the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:29.68. Kear finished fourth at 2:57.41.
First-year Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.) posted a personal-best with her third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:57.69.
Murphy's second victory came with a personal-best time of 1:01.95 in the 100-yard freestyle. Rucker was second with a personal best 1:08.12, while Shaw finished fourth at 1:28.37. Sanford swam to a personal best finish of 1:03.55 in an exhibition performance.
The 200-yard backstroke saw Martin finish third with a personal-best 3:01.38.
Williams tallied a personal best 6:38.19 as she finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, while Kear was third at 6:51.88.
The final individual event saw a pair of personal bests for the Vixens, with Martin in second with a 200-yard breaststroke time of 3:05.86. Florio's personal best of 3:40.32 put the junior in fourth.
Sweet Briar finished the night with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Sanford, Murphy, Williams and Rucker finished with a time of 1:56.12.
Sweet Briar concludes the regular season on January 25 with a 1 p.m. start scheduled at Emory & Henry.
