GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Sophomore Kaylah Bailey tallied a hat trick, while senior Rosa Bello recorded her second score of the season in Sweet Briar's 9-6 loss at Brenau on Tuesday afternoon.
Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) opened the scoring for Sweet Briar (1-7) before first-year Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) added a tally of her own to give the Vixens an early 2-0 led.
A multi-goal run for the Tigers (1-4) put Brenau up 4-2 before senior K. Mullins (Richmond, Va.) assisted on Bello's (Baltimore, Md.) second goal of the season.
Trailing 6-3 at halftime, the Vixens returned from the break with back-to-back goals as Chase assisted on a tally from senior Victoria Lawson (Shipman, Va.).
The second goal of the second period came from Bailey as she converted a free-position opportunity.
Two additional Brenau goals, including the eventual game-winner at 15:55, were followed by a Bailey free-position goal with 13:01 remaining. Bailey's third goal was the final tally of the day for either team as the Tigers escaped with a 9-6 home victory.
Sweet Briar junior Sydney Campbell (Amherst, Va.) made 10 saves in goal, while also recording a team-high six ground balls. Lawson led the Vixens with four draw controls and senior Corey Lamas (East Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded a team-high two caused turnovers.
Sweet Briar returns home on Friday for a noon first draw against the visiting Wells Express.
