HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Sophomore Allison Wandling won a tight two-set battle at No. 2 singles to clinch a huge 5-4 victory for the Vixens over Wooster at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.
Doubles saw a pair of tight matches with Sweet Briar (6-2) first-year Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and senior Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) edge Wooster's (8-5) Shannon Sertz and Joy Li 8-6.
The third completed match in doubles play saw the Vixens take a 2-1 team advantage as first-years Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) and Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) pulled out an 8-6 victory over Ishika Gupta and Laura Haley.
Singles saw the Fighting Scots take a 3-2 team lead with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, before Kotany secured a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 to pull the team score even at 3-3.
At the top singles spot, de Souza cruised to a 6-1 opening set victory over Joy Li, before edging Li 6-4 in the deciding set.
Following a Wooster win at No. 3 singles, it was Allison Wandling who clinched the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Gupta.
