SWEET BRIAR, Va. — High scores over fences proved the tiebreaker for Sweet Briar as the Vixens topped New Paltz on raw score (5-5) 727-614 on Friday morning at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center.
First-year Sophie Kane (Carbondale, Colo.) led the Vixens off with an 81-0 win on Kanye, followed by an 82-45 win by junior Lily Peterson (Ashland, Va.) on Divo.
The second round of fences saw junior Katie Balding (Williamsburg, Va.) win 80-76 on Dimitri before sophomore Maggie Fraley (White Haven, Pa.) won 78-70 on Asher.
First-year Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) scored 73 as the Vixens' final rider on Buddy.
Flat saw New Paltz tally four team points, as Fraley scored 61 on Emmett, Kane scored 69 on Luciano, sophomore Charlotte Hadley (Tiverton, R.I.) scored 64 on Dance and Peterson scored 69 on Cardino.
Sweet Briar's final rider of the day was Balding, who secured the team point for Sweet Briar to force the raw score tiebreaker, by earning MOP honors on Mulligan with a 70-56 win.
New Paltz rider, Madeline Berg earned MOP over fences.
Sweet Briar is scheduled to step away from NCEA action on April 10 to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Sweet Briar at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center.
