SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (10-6, 3-3 CSAC) marked its last home Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup today with a 2-0 loss to the Keystone Giants (11-5, 5-0 CSAC).
The first 30 minutes of the match was an extremely close contest with both teams ready to play from the start. The Vixens offense was fired up, doubling the amount of shots that Keystone had and forcing the Giants' goalkeeper to make more saves.
On the back end, a defensive save from first-year
Abby Lindsey (Providence Forge, Va.) helped secure the scoreless tie going into the half.
Keystone broke out in the third quarter, scoring a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart for the 2-0 lead entering the fourth.
With neither team getting on the board in the final quarter of play, the Giants secured the 2-0 victory.
Highlights
- Senior goalkeeper Janie Bolling (Hereford, Md.) tallied nine saves to hold Keystone to two goals, only the second time this season that the Giants have scored two goals or less in CSAC competition.
- Junior Ingrid Kalwitz Blanco (Antofagasta) led the team in shots.
