Soccer Closes Out Home Action with Loss to Eastern Mennonite

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (2-9-0, 0-8-0) fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals Eastern Mennonite (4-10-1, 2-6-1 ODAC) 5-0 on Wednesday to end its fall 2021 campaign at home.

Junior goalkeeper Katelyn Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) made eight saves, and was aided by a defensive save from first-year Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.), to hold the Royals to only two goals in the first half.

In the second half of play, Eastern Mennonite found the back of the net twice in the span of three minutes to pull ahead even further to 4-0.

The Vixens offense began to find their feet as time wound down, with connections from first-year Kaitlynn Rupert (Woodbridge, Va.) to sophomore Renée Taylor (York, Pa.) barely missing multiple times.

However, an additional goal from the Royals with 10 minutes left,  and another well-executed play from Rupert to Taylor blocked, would see the game draw to a 5-0 close.

Highlights
  • Three Vixens led the team in shots, Rupert, Taylor and first-year Kaitlyn Burns (Moneta, Va.).
  • Meyer's 12 total saves marks her fifth highest total so far this season.
What's Next
The Vixens will head to Greensboro, N.C. to face off against Guilford on Saturday, Oct. 30.
