HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (3-1, 1-1 ODAC) dropped its match against Virginia Wesleyan (2-2, 1-0 ODAC) at Hampden Sydney College today, 158-83.
Sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished first in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 11:09.33 for her first victory of the day. In the 400-meter freestyle, Carpenter edged out her Virginia Wesleyan opponents to complete the race in 5:24.78.
Also capturing two victories today was first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas), who finished the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter IM with times of 2:31.14 and 5:44.56, respectively.
First-year
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) earned a second-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke while sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) came second in the 100-meter butterfly.
In the 400-meter freestyle relay, Sweet Briar's A team came in second with a time of 4:51.15 and the B team recorded a time of 5:16.32 for a third-place finish.
The Vixens tallied another second-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay, finishing the race in 2:31.85.
Highlights
- Junior Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) finished third in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:44.63, while first-year Mary Catherine Warner secured third place in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:23.13.
- ElzHowe finished second in the 100-meter freestyle after completing the race in 1:03.65.
- Carpenter and Warner finished second and third in the 200-meter backstroke with times of 2:51.76 and 3:05.90, respectively.

The Vixens will return to Hampden-Sydney College for a neutral site meet against Randolph on Nov. 5.
