Soccer Topped by Washington and Lee

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (2-4-0, 0-3-0 ODAC) dropped its match against the Washington and Lee Generals (7-2-1, 2-1-0 ODAC) by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday night.

The Generals swung the momentum in their direction right from the start, with four goals in the first half. The Vixens came out fighting in the second half, increasing their shots on goal total and forcing the Washington and Lee goalkeeper to make more saves, but five more goals from the ODAC rival would see the game end at 9-0.

Junior Katelyn Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) manned the goal in the first half, making nine saves. In the second half, first-year Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) would get her first nod in net, coming up big for Sweet Briar with 12 saves and taking away prime scoring opportunities from the Generals.

Highlights
  • First-year Kaitlynn Rupert (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Vixens in shots on goal.
  • Cleaves' 12 saves in her debut sets her career high.
