ASHLAND, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (4-2, 2-2 ODAC) was bested by ODAC opponent Randolph-Macon (3-2, 2-1 ODAC) today, 120-92.
Sweet Briar started the meet off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), junior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) and first-years
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) formed the relay team which finished the race in 2:16.61.
The Vixens' only first-place finishes of the day came in the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle where first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) completed the races in 2:14.75, and 5:28.96, respectively.
Sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) secured two second-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:22.69 and in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:27.52.
Sweet Briar came second, third and fourth in the 50-yard free with times of 27.45, 28.85 and 29.03 by junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.), sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and Mills, respectively.
Montgomery also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.21, followed by Sanford with a time of 1:08.98 and Moore with a time of 1:12.25.
The Vixens also saw dominance in the 100-yard IM with ElzHowe placing second after finishing the race in 1:06.60 and Murphy and Carpenter in third and fourth with respective times of 1:09.68 and 1:11.22.
Lewis captured two second-place finishes of her own in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:19.83 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:53.84.
Fellow first-year
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) finished just behind Lewis in both races with times of 1:27.54 and 3:10.83, respectively.
The meet was closed out with second and third-place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Highlights
- Murphy snagged another second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.32.
- In the 200-yard freestyle, Sanford finished in second while Mills came third.
- Moore also had a strong showing in the 100-yard backstroke, placing second with a time of 1:21.23.
