ROANOKE, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (5-3, 3-2 ODAC) ended 2021 on a high note, earning a 133-53 victory over Hollins (0-3) on Saturday morning.
The Vixens earned victories in all but two events on the day, including a win in the 200-yard medley relay to start the meet.
Sophomores
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) and
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) and
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) formed the relay team that finished the race in 2:04.58, over three seconds ahead of the competition.
Carpenter immediately followed the team victory up with an individual one in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in a time of 12:28.29, followed by first-year
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) in second place.
ElzHowe earned two individual victories in the 100-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:01.05 and 5:30.13, respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) came first with a time of 2:14.31 while fellow junior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) finished right behind her.
Sweet Briar also nabbed the first two spots in the 50-yard freestyle thanks to times of 27.53 and 29.28 by first-year
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Montgomery, respectively.
The Vixens wrapped up the meet just how they started it, with a team victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), Montgomery, Murphy and Warner secured the first-place finish with a time of 1:52.84.
Highlights
- Carpenter finished the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.29 for first place, followed by first-year Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) in second.
- Warner completed the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.79 for her second individual victory of the day.
- Lewis nabbed two individual second-place finishes in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke.
