SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (4-3, 2-2 ODAC) was topped by Southern Virginia (1-1) at the Prothro Natatorium today, Dec. 4, as first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) broke her second record this year.
ElzHowe shattered the 1500-meter freestyle pool and school record with a time of 18.58.14, six seconds ahead of the previous program record held by Charlotte Greenwood.
Also doing well in the 1500 was sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) who finished second to ElzHowe with a time of 21.28.12, nearly ten seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
As a team, the Vixens earned a first-place victory in the 200-meter medley relay thanks to senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and first-years
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) who registered a time of 2:25.01.
Warner went on to earn a first-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing the race in 1:20.52, while Carpenter would capture a victory with a time of 5:18.03 in the 400-meter freestyle.
Earning second-place finishes for Sweet Briar was junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) in the 200-meter freestyle, Lewis in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter breaststroke, and Carpenter in the 200-meter backstroke.
Highlights
- ElzHowe also earned first-place finishes in the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter backstroke with times of 2:31.18 and 2:39.11, respectively.
- Sweet Briar's 200-meter medley relay time is over five seconds faster than the time set earlier in the season against Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 30.
