VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Sweet Briar first-year Kass Carpenter set a pool record in the 1650-yard freestyle as the Vixens were topped by Virginia Wesleyan 117-108 at the Jane P. Batten Student Center on Saturday.
Carpenter's (Mechanicsville, Va.) record-breaking time came in the first non-relay swim of the day when she touched the wall at 20:43.79, finishing two minutes ahead of senior teammate Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.), who was second at 22:46.74.
Sophomore Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) was second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:22.67, while Carpenter was second in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:09.32.
Sophomore Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) was first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:33.94, before first-year Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.97.
Sanford posted a 29.24 to finish second in the 50-yard freestyle, before finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.50. Montgomery was third in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:05.69.
The 200-yard backstroke saw Carpenter finish second at 2:30.10.
Murphy and senior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) finished first and third, respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke. Murphy finished at 2:52.95, while Florio touched the wall at 3:41.27.
Montgomery finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:16.51.
The 200-yard individual medley was Vixens finish first and third, with Murphy touching first at 2:29.62 and Kear third with a time of 2:49.91.
Sweet Briar won the final relay of the day, finishing with a time of 4:12.66 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Vixens' relay was composed of Carpenter, Sanford, Montgomery and Murphy.
Sweet Briar wraps up the regular season with a scheduled home meet on February 27 at 1 p.m. against Guilford.
