SWEET BRIAR, Va. — For the third-straight match, the Sweet Briar tennis squad cruised to a 9-0 victory as the Vixens topped Randolph at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center, earning head coach Dustin Hale the 100th victory of his collegiate coaching career.
Sweet Briar (6-2, 4-0 ODAC) opened the day with a pair of 8-0 victories over Randolph (1-6, 0-3 ODAC) in doubles action.
The Vixens' first doubles victory came at No. 1, where sophomores Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) rolled over Zu Elkhansa and Bailey Livingston 8-0.
First-year Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and sophomore Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) earned an 8-0 win of their own at No. 2 over Heather Whetzel and Cassidy Bell.
The third doubles spot saw junior Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) and senior Ruth Lechner (Baltimore, Md.) finish the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Jenna Fink and Amanda Jagdeo.
All six singles matches went straight sets, starting with a 6-0, 6-0 win for de Souza at No. 1.
Sweet Briar's victory was clinched at No. 3 when Kotany recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Livingston.
Guilarte picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4, while Wandling matched the scoreline at No. 2.
Lechner earned her first singles victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 over Jagdeo.
The Vixens day was wrapped up at No. 5 singles, where Alfaro toppled Bell 6-0, 6-1.
Sweet Briar's victory over Randolph was the first since March 20, 2013, snapping a six-match losing streak to the WildCats.
With the Vixens' victory on Wednesday, Sweet Briar head coach Dustin Hale picked up the 100th victory of his collegiate coaching career and his 22nd victory at Sweet Briar.
Following a postponement of Sweet Briar's road match at Mary Baldwin on March 18, due to inclement weather, Sweet Briar is set to play host to Methodist on March 20 with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
