SWEET BRIAR, Va. — For the seventh time this season, the Sweet Briar tennis team shut out its opponent, ending Sunday with a 9-0 victory over Guilford at the Dennis Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
Sweet Briar (11-5, 6-2 ODAC) opened the afternoon by sweeping Guilford (3-7, 2-7 ODAC) in doubles, led by an 8-0 victory at No. 1 by sophomores Ruth de Souza and Allison Wandling.
The Vixens' second team point came with an 8-2 win at No. 3 by junior Alexia Alfaro and senior Ruth Lechner.
The doubles sweep was completed at No. 2, where first-year Isabela Guilarte and sophomore Kate Kotany won 8-2.
Singles points started to fall the Vixens' way when Guilarte and Kotany finished nearly simultaneously at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively.
Guilarte topped Bea Niyibizi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, while Kotany clinched for the Vixens with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
At No. 1, de Souza cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 and Wandling earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 to put the Vixens up 7-0.
Sweet Briar closed out the 9-0 victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 by junior Emily Wrenn and a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 by Alfaro.
The Vixens dip back into the non-conference slate on Thursday for a 3 p.m. road trip to Averett.
