SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (1-0, 0-0 ODAC) took down the Wilson College Phoenix (0-2, 0-0 CSAC) 2-1 today in the season opener.
The Vixens got off to a great start thanks to sophomore
Dominique Cunningham (Fredericksburg, Va.) who found the back of the net off an assist from first-year
Kaitlynn Rupert (Woodbridge, Va.) 37 minutes into the first half.
Not to be outdone in her college debut, Rupert had Sweet Briar's second goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the first half of play to put the team up 2-0.
The Phoenix would stage a comeback in second half, cutting the lead to one, but the Vixens would hand on for the first win over Wilson in program history.

- Junior goalkeeper Katelyn Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) held the Phoenix scoreless in the first half.
- This marks the first time that Sweet Briar has won the first game of the season since a 3-0 victory over William Peace in 2014.
