HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. - Sweet Briar swimming (8-3, 6-2 ODAC) took down Ferrum for the second time this season by a score of 113-55 at Hampden Sydney College this afternoon.
With victories in seven out of nine races, the Vixens dominated the Panthers from the start with the 200-meter medley relay. The relay team consisting of sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and first-years
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala),
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) completed the race in 2:26.44, nearly four seconds ahead of their competitors.
First-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) kept the Vixens in the first place spot in the 800-meter freestyle, her first of three victories on the day.
Montgomery would capture her first individual victory of the meet in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 32.70 while first-year
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) came in third, less than one-tenth of a second behind the second-place finisher.
Junior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) saw success in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:16.95 for first place. Finishing behind her in second place was senior
Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.).
Warner secured an individual victory for herself in the 100-meter backstroke; finishing the race with a time of 1:21.00.
Highlights
- ElzHowe added first-place finishes in the 100-meter butterfly and the 400-meter freestyle with times of 1:09.84 and 5:11.16, respectively.
- Sanford and Jones finished second and third, respectively in the 200-meter freestyle.
- In the 200-meter IM, Lewis nabbed the second place position with a time of 2:51.28 while Aparicio came third.
