SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (4-7, 0-2 CSAC) came up short in its new turf field opener to Colonial States Athletic Conference rivals Wilson (6-3, 2-0) by a score of 5-2.
Playing on the Vixens' new state-of-the-art water turf for the first time this season, the Phoenix came out of the gate hot scoring three goals in the first quarter.
The second quarter of play remained scoreless for most of its duration until Wilson increased its lead to four with less than a minute remaining.
Junior
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) got Sweet Briar on the board off an assist from senior
Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.). However, another tally by the Phoenix would bring the gap back up to four goals.
The Vixens would score the last goal of the play with a minute and a half remaining in the third quarter thanks to sophomore
Jolin Daughety's (Williamsburg, Va.) persistent rebound tries.
A scoreless fourth quarter brought the game to its 5-2 close.
