AMHERST, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (1-10-0, 1-6-0 ODAC) showed resiliency in today's match against the Averett Cougars (5-6-2, 3-3-1) striking last in the 4-1 loss.
The Cougars saw the first-half momentum be in their favor thanks to three goals in the first twenty minutes of play.
Despite a goal only a minute into the second half to put Averett up 4-0, the Vixens swung the momentum of the game in their favor and picked up the intensity of play.
Graduate student
Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) would find the back of the net off a Sweet Briar throw-in to get the home team on the board and breathe new life into the match.
A shutdown by the Vixens' defense for the final thirty minutes of the game, highlighted by sophomore goalkeeper
Trista Cleaves' (Millville, N.J.) 17 second-half saves, capped the final score at 4-1.
Highlights
- Cleaves totaled 29 saves in the game, her third game this season with 20+ saves made.
- C. Lewis now sits tied for ninth in the conference with six goals on the season.
- Sophomore Cassie McCabe (Millsboro, Del.) made her Sweet Briar debut with a start in today's match.
