Soccer Sees Bright Spots in Loss to Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (1-12-0, 1-8-0 ODAC) fell to conference opponents Eastern Mennonite (1-13-3, 1-7-1 ODAC) tonight 10-1, but saw some bright spots throughout the course of the match.

The Royals started the first-half scoring off less than five minutes into the game and would tally four more before the end of the half.

Getting back into action after halftime, Eastern Mennonite increased their lead to six at the 55:01 mark. A penalty kick goal followed by an additional penalty kick tally and two more scores would put the home team up 10-0 with 16 minutes remaining.

However, the Vixens offense would fight back and once again strike last with sophomore Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) feeding junior Delaney Armenti (Lynchburg, Va.) with a pass off her shot that struck the crossbar to get Sweet Briar on the board. The penultimate match of the season would draw to a close with the score at 10-1.

Highlights
  • Tonight's tally marks the first goal of Armenti's collegiate career.
  • J. Lewis now leads the team with three assists on the season.
  • Senior Evelyn Tello (Hampton, Ga.) and sophomore Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) split time in goal; recording a combined total of 11 saves.
What's Next
The Vixens will close out the season with senior day against Guilford on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
