Swimming Earns Dominating Wins in First Home Meet of the Season

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar swim team (2-1, 2-0 ODAC) was dominant in its first home meet of the season taking down the Guilford Quakers (1-1) 143-32 and Hollins (0-2) 140-32 tonight at the Prothro Natatorium.
 
The Vixens kicked the meet off with a first-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay with junior Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.), first-year Caroline Lilly (Camden, N.C.)and sophomores Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) combining for a time of 2:34.35.
 
Carpenter followed that up with a victory in the 800-meter freestyle after besting the second-place finisher by nearly two minutes with a time of 10:51.55. Sophomore Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) placed fourth in the event after recording a time of 13:44.75.
 
Sweet Briar finished first, fourth and fifth in the 200-meter freestyle. Sophomore Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) led the pack with a time of 2:44.62 while first-years Dana Kriesien (Sun Valley, Idaho) Lilly rounded out the field at 2:55.37 and 3:05.76, respectively.
 
Warner sat atop the podium in the 50-meter freestyle after coming in at the 30.39 mark. Graduate student Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and sophomore Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) finished third and fourth in their first race of the season with times of 31.94 and 33.46, respectively. Moore rounded out the field in fourth; finishing the race in 35.82.
 
Senior Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) captured a victory in her first individual race of the meet after registering a time of 2:49.20 in the 200-meter IM. Murphy then followed the victory up with another in the 100-meter butterfly after completing the event in 1:18.54. ElzHowe finished right behind her with a time of 1:19.79.
 
Warner and C. Lewis finished first and second in the 100-meter freestyle, once again showcasing the dominance of Sweet Briar in the pool. Warner clocked a time of 1:10.01, while C. Lewis registered a time of 1:14.51. Moore also did well in the race, completing it in 1:22.98.
 
With a time of 2:47.68, Carpenter nabbed her second individual victory of the day in the 200-meter backstroke. Kriesien placed third with a time of 3:20.53.
 
Aparicio earned her second individual victory of the meet in the 400-meter freestyle after recording a time of 5:50.04, while ElzHowe placed fourth with a time of 7:21.01.
 
In the last individual race of the day, the Vixens finished one-two with J. Lewis coming in at 1:30.35 and Aparicio at 1:38.56. Lilly placed fourth with a time of 1:46.00.
 
Sweet Briar closed out the successful meet with a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Kriesien, J. Lewis, C. Lewis and Murphy recorded a combined time of 2:17.08.

Sweet Briar will see action against Southern Virginia on Friday, Nov. 4 and host Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 5.
