Swimming Bested by Randolph-Macon

FARMVILLE, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (3-4, 3-2 ODAC) was bested by Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents Randolph-Macon today, falling by a score of 103-61.
 
The Vixens started off the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-meter medley relay. Junior Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.), sophomore Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.), senior Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) and graduate student Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) combined for a time of 5:12.03.
 
In the 800-meter freestyle sophomore Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) claimed second place with a time of 11:56.05 followed by first-year Caroline Lilly (Camden, N.C.) in third with a time of 13:32.32.
 
Carpenter finished in second in her first individual race of the meet, the 200-meter freestyle, after recording a time of 2:26.67 with first-year Dana Kriesien (Sun Valley, Idaho) in third with a time of 2:52.50.
 
Sweet Briar finished in the second and third spots in the 50-meter freestyle as well. Sophomore Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with a time of 30.08 while fellow sophomore Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) clocked in a time of 32.55.
 
J. Lewis captured the Vixens' fourth individual second-place finish of the day after securing a time of 3:03.38 in the 200-meter IM. Her performance was followed up by Murphy's second-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:56.70.
 
C. Lewis claimed second place in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:07.18 while Warner came second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:19.19.
 
Sweet Briar wrapped up the night with a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Murphy, Warner, C. Lewis and Aparicio recorded a total time of 2:05.70.
 
Highlights
  • The Vixens saw additional second-place finishes from Carpenter and J. Lewis in the 400-meter freestyle and the 100-meter breaststroke, respectively.
  • Aparicio claimed third and fourth to round out the 400-meter freestyle while Lilly captured third in the 100-meter breaststroke.
 
What's Next
Sweet Briar and Randolph-Macon will meet again at the Yellow Jacket Invite, Dec. 3-4.
