Lacrosse Earns Decisive 17-4 Victory over Hollins

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar lacrosse (2-2, 0-0 CSAC) earned a decisive 17-4 victory over Hollins (0-2, 0-0 ODAC) this afternoon at Thayer Field.

Sweet Briar got on the board early in the first quarter with three-straight goals from three different players. Junior Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.), senior Sarah Schindler (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) all helped the Vixens take the 3-0 lead.

With the score at 3-1, first-year Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) found Southard for the man-up goal to close out the quarter.

It was all Vixens in the second quarter with six uninterrupted goals for the 10-1 lead. Senior Ingrid Stacia (Richmond, Va.) would contribute one goal to the Vixen's total for her first in a Sweet Briar uniform.

In the third quarter of play, junior Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) responded to Hollins' man-up goal with her second of the game off a pass from Chase. Less than two minutes later, Chase assisted again, this time on a goal from Southard.

After Hollins brought the score to 12-3, Sweet Briar went on a four-goal scoring run which saw goals from Foster, Bailey and Chase, as well as another first career goal, this one from sophomore Erica Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa.).

Despite a late push from Hollins with time winding down, the Vixens would find the back of the net last and come away with the 17-4 victory.

  • Chase led the team with four goals while Bailey, Southard and Foster each registered three.
  • Both Southard and Chase tallied five helpers.
