SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar NCEA team (7-4, 6-2 ECAC) took down the Bridgewater Eagles 5-3 to earn a spot in the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Single Discipline South Regional Championship Finals.
Sweet Briar went out to an early 3-1 in flat with first-year
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.), sophomore
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and junior
Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) earning points on their rides. The trio won with scores of 57.5, 81 and 77, respectively. Freeburg defeated Caroline Warren with the biggest score margin of the meet, a 13-point 77 to 52.5 victory.
The victory was clinched with two more points in fences competition. Senior
Britt Larson-Jackson (Washington, D.C.) scored a 74 on Russ to beat Emily Nuthall by six points. Also performing well was Longest, who scored her second point of the day with a 83 on Phantom.
