NCEA Crowned ECAC Single Discipline South Regional Champions

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No. 1 Sweet Briar NCEA team (8-4, 6-2 ECAC) was crowned the 2022 Easter College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Single Discipline South Regional Champions today after taking down No. 3 Sewanee (2-4, 1-2 ECAC), 8-0.
 
In fences competition, all four Vixens score 80 points or higher with sophomore Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) named Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) after scoring an 86 on Ava. First-year Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) secured a 20-point margin of victory over Kit Ferguson with an 80 on Cooley.
 
Rounding out the field for Sweet Briar were first-year Paige Kennedy (Purcellville, Va.) and senior Britt Larson-Jackson (Washington, D.C.) who scored an 84 and an 81, respectively.
 
The Vixens continued to dominate in flat competition, again sweeping all four points to hold Sewanee scoreless. Atherton earned the MOP title in this event after registering an 88 on Sven. Larson-Jackson and Longest scored their second points of the day after earning a 68.5 on Diego and a 74.5 on Dance, respectively. Junior Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) scored an 80 on Jakson to earn a nine-point victory over Liza Shoaf.

The Vixens are set to move on to  the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championships in Ocala, Fla., April 13-15.
