Lacrosse Bests Centenary (N.J.), 12-6

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar lacrosse (5-4, 2-1 CSAC) picked up its second Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win today as the team took down the Centenary Cyclones (1-3, 0-2) by a score of 12-6.

After a first quarter that saw the Vixens take the 2-0 lead thanks to goals from junior Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) and first-year Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.), Sweet Briar picked up the pace with a four-goal second quarter.

Foster registered two goals, Bailey and sophomore Jamison Tarver (Kingwood, Texas) one each in an answer to the Cyclones' lone first-half goal to start the quarter.

Up 6-1 at the half, Sweet Briar played their best quarter of the match. Junior Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) found the back of the net three times while Foster added two more to her total to bring the game to a score of 11-3 with only 15 minutes remaining.

Despite a late push by Centenary with four-straight goals, first-year Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) scored the final goal of the game while the Vixens were a man down to bring the play to a 12-6 close.

Defensively, sophomore Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) recorded eight saves while first-year Kaitlyn Burns (Moneta, Va.) led the team with five caused turnovers and Tarver nabbed four ground balls.
