STAUNTON, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (0-5-0, 0-0-0 ODAC) was bested by the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels (5-1-1, 0-0-0 USA South) this afternoon, falling by a score of 8-0.
The Fighting Squirrels moved out to an early 1-0 lead, finding the back of the net a little over four minutes into the match.
Ten minutes later, following a shot attempt from graduate student
Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and a corner kick opportunity for the Vixens, Mary Baldwin grew the lead to two on a corner kick chance of their own.
Two more goals for the home team would come in between scoring looks for Sweet Briar, before three more unanswered goals set the score at 6-0 heading into the half.
The Vixens' defense found their feet in the second half, not allowing another Fighting Squirrels goal until the 64-minute mark. Mary Baldwin finalized the score at 8-0 after scoring after a foul restart with 20 minutes left to play.

- C. Lewis led the team in shots with six, followed by sophomore Emma Wilk (Roxbury, N.J.) with two.

After a Friday off, Sweet Briar will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 17 for a clash with Patrick & Henry Community College at Amherst County High School.
