Soccer Comes to a Draw with Warren Wilson

SWANNONOA, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-6-1) came to a 2-2 draw against the Warren Wilson College Owls (0-8-1, 0-0-0 C2C) this afternoon at Hank Steinbrecher Field.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the entirety of the game, ending up deadlocked at zero entering halftime.

The Owls got on the board first at the 48:36 mark after an ensuing corner kick led to extended possession in the Vixens' defensive zone.

Sweet Briar would answer with a goal from senior Sophie Vargesko (Plum, Pa.) to once again bring the game to a tie; this time at one all.

The Vixens would show their resilience when a tally by Warren Wilson with less than 10 minutes remaining gave them the 2-1 lead.

Less than a minute later, off the restart whistle, first-year Abby Bryant (Morganton, N.C.) would tie the match up once again.

The game would end in a 2-2 tie, the first tie of the season for both teams.

Highlights
  • First-year goalkeeper Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) totaled three saves.
  • Junior Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) led the team with four shots on goal while first-year Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) totaled seven shots.
