SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No.2 single discipline Sweet Briar College NCEA team (6-2, 6-1 ECAC) took down both the No.4 single discipline Bridgewater Eagles (1-5) and the Dartmouth Big Green (1-6) today at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center.
The Vixens began the day facing off against the Eagles. The team took the early 3-2 lead during the fences portion of the meet thanks to points by first-year
Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), junior
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and sophomore
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.).
Dachis earned a 79 with Chico while Atherton totaled an 80 with Phantom to beat her Bridgewater opponent by 10 points.
Longest's 83-point performance with Jetson earned her a second Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) nod for this season.
Sweet Briar continued its pace in flat competition with another three points scored by first-year
Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.), Atherton and sophomore
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.).
Felton scored a 72 with Jakson while Atherton and Peterson earned scores of 73 and 70, respectively. Atherton topped her Bridgewater opponent by 23 points; her highest win margin in flat so far this season. Peterson also saw a comfortable margin of victory with 12 points separating her from Delaney Broderick.
The Vixens kept up the winning the pace in the afternoon meet against Dartmouth by taking a 5-0 lead during flat competition.
Peterson scored a 69, Longest a 76, senior
Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) an 81, Felton an 80 and Atherton an 85 to sweep the event.
Atherton earned her first MOP title of the day thanks to a 22-point win over Alexa Strauss while Longest, Freeburg and Felton took down their opponents by 11, 12 and 17 points respectively.
In fences action, points were earned by Atherton, Dachis, sophomore
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) and Longest. Atherton was named MOP again as she scored an 87 with Asher to put her 13 points above Gemma Tung.
Dachis totaled an 86 with Jetson, Mesiarik a 74 with Covey and Longest a 75 with Kobe to earn their victories.
