SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (7-3, 3-0 ODAC) was perfect today at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center, taking down both the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers (5-4, 0-0 SAA) and the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins (1-3, 0-1 ODAC) by scores of 9-0.
The Vixens opened up the day with their clean slate against the Panthers in the morning. The doubles team of Kotany/I. Guilarte defeated Bentley/Lambert 8-0 while Bovard/A. Guilarte took down Giles/Weeks, 8-4. With only five players, Bestwick/Caro won their match by forfeit.
In singles play, senior
Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India) won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets over Isabella Lambert.
Sophomore
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) also performer well, conceding only one game in both sets to Anna Cate Weeks in her 6-1, 6-1 No. 3 singles victory.
Both
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and first-year
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) won their first sets by a score of 6-1 at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles flights, respectively. A. Guilarte would go on to win set two against Anna Beth Giles 6-3, while Bovard reigned victorious over Meg Griffins with a 6-4 second set win.
Senior
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) faced off against Anna Marie Bentley at the No. 2 slot and won her match by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
First-year
Isa Chen (Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil) was awarded the win by forfeit at the No. 6 position.
Sweet Briar kept the momentum going in its second match of the day against conference opponents Virginia Wesleyan.
Kotany/I. Guilarte earned their second 8-0 doubles win of the day over Bibbo/Brown at the No. 3 slot while both de Souza/Wandling and Andrade/Patino earned 8-1 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights, respectively.
In singles play, both senior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) and I. Guilarte earned perfect 6-0 wins. Andrade took down Kristina Abrams at the No. 5 slot while I. Guilarte defeated Maya Brown at the No. 6 slot.
Seniors
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) won their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
Sophomore
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) earned the victory over Christine Zalameda in her No. 2 singles match by scores of 6-1, 6-4.
Wrapping up the perfect day for the Vixens was Kotany who earned a 7-6(7-2), 6-0 win over Shannon Lewes at the No. 4 slot.

- With four victories today, Kotany becomes the third Vixen in program history to reach 100 career wins.
- Today marks the Vixens' third-straight 9-0 sweep of the Marlins.
