HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (5-2, 2-0 ODAC) extended its win streak to five after taking down the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (3-2, 0-0 NJAC), 8-1.
The Vixens swept doubles competition with the pairings of de Souza/Wandling winning their match 8-5, Andrade/Patino winning 8-1 and Bovard/A. Guilarte winning 8-1 at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots respectively.
In singles play, sophomore
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) took down Mar Julia at the No. 6 flight, 6-0, 6-0.
Fellow Sophomore
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) and junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) also won their matches in straight sets. Patino earned her No. 1 singles victory over Giada Zorzan by scores of 6-3, 6-3 while I. Guilarte defeated Sara Zorzan, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot.
Senior
Kate Kotany earned a 6-3, 7-5 win over Sophia Jurina at the No. 4 spot while fellow senior
Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India) came away with the hard-fought No. 3 singles victory over Vanshita Malhorta by scores of 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
Highlights
- Both I. Guilarte and Kotany have won their last four singles matches.
- Caro/Simhambhatla are currently riding a six-match winning streak while Andrade/Patino's win streak sits at five.
- Today marks the first match and first victory for Bovard/A. Guilarte as a doubles team.
