SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (17-7, 9-1 ODAC) has advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship Semifinals match after taking down the Roanoke College Maroons 5-0 today. The Vixens followed that win up with a 9-0 routing of non-conference opponent Trinity (D.C.).
The team got out to a 3-0 lead following the conclusion of doubles play. The pairing of Bovard/A. Guilarte were perfect against Johnson/Morrell at the No. flight with an 8-0 victory.
The duo of de Souza/Wandling earned an 8-2 win over Bassett/Fernstrum at the No. 1 slot while Andrade/Patino defeated their No. 2 doubles opponents of Rios/Streibich 8-3.
In singles play, senior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) was first to finish her No. 4 singles match against Victoria Rios with scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Fellow senior
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) captured the victory for Sweet Briar with a 6-0, 6-0 No. 5 singles victory over Maddie Morrell.
At the time of the completion of the match, seniors
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and
Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India) and sophomore
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) had each won their first sets by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0.
Senior
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) was leading Julia Bassett 5-2 at No. 2 singles.
The Vixens were perfect against Trinity, never conceding a single set in any of the matches contested.
The pairings of A. Guilarte/Bovard, Bestwick/Chen and Jones/Patino all won their doubles matches by scores of 8-0 at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively.

Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela),
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and
Isa Chen (Mogi das Cruzes) and junior
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) all defeated their opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) took the first from Guyberlie Cinada 6-0 before winning by retirement at the No. 1 flight.
