LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 2 seed Sweet Briar College tennis team (18-7, 9-1 ODAC) took down the No. 3 seed Averett University Cougars (14-4, 8-2) by a score of 5-1 to earn a spot in the team's third-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Championship tomorrow.
The Vixens got off to a good start in doubles play with the pairings of de Souza/Wandling and Andrade/Patino both winning their matches.
The duo of de Souza/Wandling took down Gunning/B. Poulakidas, 8-5, at the No. 1 flight while Andrade/Patino defeated Garcia/Rhysen, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, all three victories came at the hands of senior student-athletes.
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) earned the No. 1 singles win over Keira Gunning, 6-1, 6-1 while
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) took down Alejandra Garcia at the No. 4 slot, 6-2, 6-0.
Allison Wandling clinched the victory for Sweet Briar with a 6-0, 6-3 No. 3 singles victory over Brenda Poulakidas.
Additionally, junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) was ahead in her match with a 6-4 first set win when the game was called.
Highlights
- The Vixens have not lost a match to the Cougars since the 2018-19 season.
- Andrade/Patino have now won their last six matches contested together.

Sweet Briar will take on No. 1 seed Washington for the ODAC title and Lee tomorrow at 10 a.m.
