Tennis Dominant Against Guilford

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (12-6, 6-0 ODAC) remained perfect in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play today as they took down the Guilford College Quakers (0-11, 0-7 ODAC) 9-0.
 
With both Andrade/Patino and Caro/Simhambhatla winning their doubles matches 8-0 and a forfeit by Guilford at the No. 3 doubles spot, the Vixens went up 3-0 early in the match.
 
Another win by forfeit for junior Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) brought the score up to 4-0 heading into singles play.
 
Senior Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) was perfect in her No. 5 singles matches against Yasmine Elabdellaoui. She won both sets by scores of 6-0.
 
Fellow senior Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) won her first set 6-0, before her match ended in the retirement of her opponent Jolie Nhouyvanisvong while up 2-1 in the second set.
 
Senior Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) took down Hannah Pardue, 6-0, 6-1, while senior Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) flip-flopped her scores for the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nya Reed.
 
Senior Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India) helped complete the sweep for the Sweet Briar with the 6-0, 6-1 win over Ashley Belnap at the No. 2 flight.
 
Highlights
  • The Vixens have now won eighth matches by scores of 9-0.
  • Today marked Kotany's second 6-0, 6-0 sweep over an opponent this season. 
What's Next
Sweet Briar will travel to both Hollins and Randolph for matches on Wednesday, April 12 at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
