SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 ODAC) came up short against the Wilson College Phoenix (1-0, 0-0 United East) in today's home opener at Thayer Field by a score of 2-0.
The Phoenix would get on the board first thanks to an ensuing penalty corner play inserted by Brea Kelso. Hannah Aker would eventually find the back of the net off a pass from Jill Ahlgren to take the 1-0 lead.
A scoreless second period with a shot on goal opportunity from junior
Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) would keep the score at 1-0 going into halftime.
In the opening minutes of the third period, the Vixens would record six shots and three penalty corners. However, it would be Wilson that would capitalize at the 38:41 mark of the game to increase its lead to two.
Another scoreless quarter to close out the game kept the score at 2-0.

Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) registered three saves during the course of play.
Highlights
- Both first-years Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) saw action in their first career collegiate game.
- Daughety lead the team with six total shots, while sophomore Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) had three and seniors Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) and Avery Jones (Union, Conn.), junior Giselle Vega (Chesapeake, Va.), sophomore Sophia Bovino (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and first-year Burdine each had one.
What's Next
The Vixens will welcome Southern Virginia to campus on Wednesday, Sept. 6 before hitting the road for contests against Transylvania and Wittenberg on Sept. 9 and 10, respectively.
