DANVILLE, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-5-0) fell to the Averett University Cougars (4-3-2, 1-0-0 ODAC) today by a score of 7-1.
The Cougars dominated the first half of play, scoring six of their seven goals before 45 minutes were up.
First-year
Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) recorded the first shot in the game at the 2:57 mark with a shot also being taken by senior
Sophie Vargesko (Plum, Pa.) before half time came around.
Diaz would get the Vixens on the board less than five minutes into the second half to bring the score to 6-1.
A final goal for the home team with the clock winding down brought the game to a 7-1 close.
In goal, junior
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) recorded six saves.
Highlights
- Tonight's goal marks the sixth of the season for Diaz.
- The Vixens have scored in four straight games for the first time since the 2014 season.
What's Next
The team will hit the road to take on William Peace and Warren Wilson on Oct. 5 and oct. 8, respectively.
