Soccer Overcome by William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-6-0) fell to the William Peace University Pacers (4-4-2, 0-1-1 USA South) on the road tonight by a score of 10-2.

The home team got out to an early two-goal lead within the first five minutes of play.

The Pacers racked up three more goals before first-year Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) found the back of the net to get the Vixens on the board at the 33:12 mark.

Another trio of goals by William Peace would give them the 8-1 lead entering the second half of play.

Two more goals would be tacked on by the Pacers, however, it would be Sweet Briar notching the final goal of the game. Junior Natalie Cockey's (Oxford, Md.) second of the season with less than six minutes remaining would bring the game to its 10-2 close.

Junior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) totaled two saves during her 17 minutes in net while first-year Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) racked up a career-high 10 saves during the span of 72 minutes.

Highlights
  • With 15 points so far this season, Diaz is the first Vixen to reach that total since Kayla Kishbaugh '17 did during the 2014 season.
  • Sophomore Victoria Schofield (Towson, Md.) recorded the assist on Diaz's goal.
  • Tonight's game also marks the first time since 2014 that Sweet Briar has tallied two or more goals against William Peace.
