SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (1-1, 0-0 ODAC) moved to 6-0 all-time against the Southern Virginia University Knights (0-2, 0-0 USA South) tonight after an 8-0 victory at Thayer Field.
Junior
Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) got the scoring started for the Vixens two minutes into the game off a pass from senior
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.)
A penalty corner inserted by sophomore
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) less than a minute later would lead to a tally from Jones for the 2-0 lead.
Daughety would find the back of the net again in the second period, this time less than a minute into the action to up the Vixens' lead to three.
First-year
Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif) would capitalize on a rebound off of A. Prevet's shot at the 20 minute mark of action for her first-career goal to bring the score to 4-0 heading into the half.
A little over two minutes into the third quarter, Jones would tally her second while A. Prevet would capitalize on a rebound from Burdine this time to go up 6-0.
Additional goals by junior
Giselle Vega (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore
Carlina Christy (Denver, Pa.) at the 41:42 and 43:25 marks, respectively would bring the game to its eventual 8-0 close.
The Vixens held the Knights to zero shots on goal throughout the entire game.
Highlights
- Both Jones and Daughety led the team with two goals.
- Burdine recorded a total of six shots during the game while A. Prevet had five.
- Off the bench, Vega led with six shots while first-year Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) recorded three.
