LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (1-1, 0-1 ODAC) split today's tri-meet against the Gallaudet University Bison (0-2, 0-0 AEC) and the Randolph College WildCats (2-0, 1-0 ODAC).
The Vixens fell to Randolph, 187-47, but defeated Gallaudet, 122-70.
Today's action was kicked off with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. First-year
Emily Carter (Beckley, W. Va.), senior
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.), first-year
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) and sophomore
Ella Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) combined for a time of 2:25.72.
Seitz followed that race up with a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle thanks to her time of 2:35.78 while sophomore
Jules Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) touched the wall in seventh.
Both Carter and fellow first-year
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.) came back-to-back in third and fourth in the 50-yard backstroke with times of 41.00 and 53.94, respectively.
In the 50-yard breaststroke, Warner captured second with a time of 37.28 while senior
Viya Atambayeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) came in fourth with a time of 52.05.
Warner's time of 27.37 was enough to capture second in the 50-yard freestyle while Elliott placed seventh in the event and Minyard in eighth.
First-year
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) touched the wall in fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and Atambayeva placed seventh.
Scherrer and Elliot both contested the 100-yard backstroke and placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the 21st event of the day, Scherrer came fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:16.89 while Carter saw a third-place finish in the day's 23rd event, the 50-yard butterfly.
Sweet Briar's relay teams placed second and fourth in the final race of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Highlights
- Atambayeva came second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:57.12.
- Seitz saw a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM.
