Soccer Tripped Up by Randolph

AMHERST, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-4-0, 0-1-0 ODAC) fell to the Randolph College WildCats (6-1-2, 1-0-0) this afternoon by a score of 3-1 at Amherst County High School.
 
After a scoreless first 10 minutes of action, the WildCats were the first to get on the board before doubling their lead only 10 minutes later.
 
With less than five minutes to play in the first half, senior Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) got the Vixens on the scoresheet off a free kick to bring the score to 2-1 entering the break.
 
Randolph tallied an additional goal at the 61:26 mark, however, the remaining 30 minutes of action went scoreless to end the game at 3-1.
 
In goal, senior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) totaled 11 saves.
 
Highlights
  • Lewis's third goal of the season marks the first that Sweet Briar has scored on Randolph since the 2014 season.
  • Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Connelly Spring, N.C.) led the team in shots.
 
What's Next
The Vixens will travel to Hollins on Oct. 9th and Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 12th.
