Tennis Comes Out On Top Against Franklin & Marshall

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (8-1, 2-0 ODAC) concluded its time in Florida this afternoon with a closely-contested 5-4 victory over the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats (1-6, 0-1 CC).
 
The Vixens kicked off the match by securing the victory with five out of six possible points in singles play.
 
Junior Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) took down Mackenzie Sherman at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-2, 6-2 while both first-years Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) and Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) won their matches, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
 
Senior Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) also won her No. 2 single match in straight sets over Sophia Rhazali, 6-4, 6-3.
 
In the No. 4 match, junior Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) battles in to a three-set victory against Amelia Squires by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2).
 
With a 5-1 lead heading into doubles, Sweet Briar was able to withstand a push back from the Diplomats in doubles to take the 5-4 win.

  • Lima now moves to 6-0 in singles play during the dual season.
  • Today marks the program's first-ever victory over Franklin and Marshall.

The Vixens will open up home action against Division II East Stroudsburg on March 17th at 4 p.m.
